Silver Sunday

Happy Silver Sunday!
I'm joining the party a little late but it seems like the Summer months bring that out in me. I don't have much thought of time during the Summer. I'm always running a little late.

Which is why I thought the perfect Silver Sunday item this week would be the watch Mr. Blessing bought for me several years ago from Grandmother's Buttons

Just a quick reminder... The Rosette Party is coming up this Thursday!!

If you make or sell rosettes we'd love for you to join us!

Silver Sunday

It's finally feeling like Spring here in the Midwest so everywhere we look there are people working in their yards. Mr. Blessing and I have been dragging the outdoor tables, chairs, benches and other pretties from their Winter hiding places. Yesterday several of the neighbor kids came over and helped spread new soil and plant wildflowers. The breezes carried most of the seeds right out of their sweet little fists but it was fun to watch them. I guess it doesn't really matter what we plant... We all know that Neighbor Bob sneaks over and fixes all my gardening faux pas while I'm not looking. Goodness, I love this place. Love silly Neighbor Bob. Love that the yard is already filled with neighborhood kids. Love that we all gather for watermelon parties, laughing & talking way into the mosquitio-y nights.

Hope you have a blessed Silver Sunday!
P.S. Just had to share this....
In all my years of blogging, that's the first time I've come across a "bless" word verification.

Oh and one last thing...

The new issue of Porch will be available sometime in the next week!
Keep an eye on the blog - we'll announce it there first.

Silver Sunday

There's something about January & February that make me feel like I'm living in a bottle. At the first sign of cold weather here in the Midwest, we all love to snuggle up by the fire and be cozy. But by now we're all getting a little cabin fever! And now is when the bitter cold really falls upon us.

In order to keep the kids busy and to keep from pulling our hair out, here at the Blessings farmhouse we've resorted to board games.

I've never been a board games kinda gal. I'm the wierd one at family gatherings that doesn't like to play charades or banana-grams or telephone. But I DO like my kids and they are having so much fun!
It's precious time in bottle.

Silver Sunday

Friends are like gems - More precious if they have been with you for a long time.
Happy Silver Sunday!

I read something the other day over at Bohemian Season that has been ringing in my ears ever since. She said "Become Your Alter Ego". I pondered it all night, remembering a good friend who died recently. It seemed like he was always waiting for the life he really wanted. Waiting - for enough clients, for the happy part of marriage, for the kids to be grown, for retirement. All that waiting and then he died. "Chasing after the wind" is what the Bible calls it. I wondered how he might have been different had he simply lived the life that he was waiting for.
Did you know that we all have a God-shaped void in our lives? It's true. He created us with a longing that can only be filled by Him. All that waiting... Chasing the wind... work, marriages, children, homes, hobbies, friends - It's all just stuff that we try to put in the void. Not wrong things - just not THE thing. The feeling of wanting to be someone else... To unlock our true selves... Longing to do something different... Isn't that our "alter ego"? Isn't that the empty place calling out to be filled?
Let's challenge ourselves to become the alternative us that God desires. Let's not wait.

Is it wierd that I find myself thinking about Silver Sunday all through the week?
It's true. All week I've been spying bits of silver around every corner.

Photobucket
I didn't realize how much I enjoy silver.
I also didn't realize that one leg on this teapot is more silver than the others.

Not truly silver but do you see what I mean? Little silvery metals everywhere!

See more of my silver over at French Cupboard.
