Silver Sunday

I read something the other day over at Bohemian Season that has been ringing in my ears ever since. She said "Become Your Alter Ego". I pondered it all night, remembering a good friend who died recently. It seemed like he was always waiting for the life he really wanted. Waiting - for enough clients, for the happy part of marriage, for the kids to be grown, for retirement. All that waiting and then he died. "Chasing after the wind" is what the Bible calls it. I wondered how he might have been different had he simply lived the life that he was waiting for.
Did you know that we all have a God-shaped void in our lives? It's true. He created us with a longing that can only be filled by Him. All that waiting... Chasing the wind... work, marriages, children, homes, hobbies, friends - It's all just stuff that we try to put in the void. Not wrong things - just not THE thing. The feeling of wanting to be someone else... To unlock our true selves... Longing to do something different... Isn't that our "alter ego"? Isn't that the empty place calling out to be filled?
Let's challenge ourselves to become the alternative us that God desires. Let's not wait.

  1. ...so many times we forget about those footprints in the sand! Thank you for reminding us today to not wait on tomorrow, but to live each day in the present, alongside our Heavenly Father!

  5. Oh, wonderfully said. I keep asking a relative of mine, who made a conscious decision to try and fill that hole on his own and do good rather than fill it with Christ...how that hole in his chest feels today.

He always answers, "It's still there."
