Pebbles

Does anybody else feel that it's hard to stick something out, even when it's a worthy something... to "stay on task" as our elementary teachers say. There's so many fun and pretty things out there to talk about (infinite arrangements of joy) - it's blissful to get off track sometmes.

Last July I was deeply moved by a post I read, so moved that I began making a list everyday in the hopes of getting to a 1000 by Christmas. Counting daily gifts He's given. What an amazing steamy Summer it was, walking in thankfulness. I didn't want it to end, that wonderful feeling. But somehow, in a fit of silliness, my brain must have equated that calm happy time with the season because as Winter approached, I felt discontented, unwilling to let go of my sweet Summer.

I think I stopped counting somewhere around 200. Of course I've thanked Him for things. Of course I've seen how wonderful He is. But journaling them, looking for them... Just a few pebbles a day in the vast sea of that infinite arrangement, but so important. Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you.

  1. What a great post! Maybe if we listed to ourselves 5 great things a day, or 10 to be thankful for and make it a priority, we could hit that 1000 mark! Great idea. I am thankful for so much! Thanks for the reminder.

  4. Hi Polly,
Thank you for sharing that. I'm going to give it a good try. Of course, there's probably more than 1000 blessings:) Thaank you for sharing your first 6 blessings. I'm wondering, is your husband a believer? That is a prayer of mine:) for my husband and grown children. God is faithful and I believe they will chose

  5. That is such a wonderful idea...sometimes we forget how blessed we truly are. We take all the wonderous, joyous things in our lives for granted. We should be so thankful if we are well, our children are well, we have food and shelter and pets and flowers to look at and on and on and on. And of course the biggest blessing...that God loves us and cares about all the things that happen in our lives.

  6. I really like that idea of counting your blessings because it seems we tend to forget the things we should be so grateful for! Thanks for the reminder!

  7. Polly,
This is a great post. I write one thing in my journal (usually in the morning) something I've been blessed to see or experience while on my walk. After reading this post, I think I'll try to remember to do the same thing in the evening. I'll have to count and see how far I am so far!

    Your #201 sounds really good.
