Silver Sunday

There's something about January & February that make me feel like I'm living in a bottle. At the first sign of cold weather here in the Midwest, we all love to snuggle up by the fire and be cozy. But by now we're all getting a little cabin fever! And now is when the bitter cold really falls upon us.

In order to keep the kids busy and to keep from pulling our hair out, here at the Blessings farmhouse we've resorted to board games.

I've never been a board games kinda gal. I'm the wierd one at family gatherings that doesn't like to play charades or banana-grams or telephone. But I DO like my kids and they are having so much fun!
It's precious time in bottle.

White Wednesday

A friend of mine found an old book of wallpaper samples when she was packing to move.

I was ever so happy to take it off her hands!

Purse Pursuits

Mr. Blessing and I had a rare date night on Friday. We savored childless moments at a local sidewalk cafe and then he took me to one of my favorite places in the world - the bookstore! After loading up on some inspiration in print, we stayed up late visiting with friends.
The next morning, when I was too tired to move, I layed on the sofa and started leafing through the new Romantic Homes. You should have heard me squeal when I saw a picture of my wallets on page 7 ("Purse Pursuits")! Now that's a sweet way to start the weekend.
How was your weekend?

Silver Sunday

Friends are like gems - More precious if they have been with you for a long time.
Happy Silver Sunday!

Tokens

Just a few tokens of affection...

We've been so busy running children hither and yon that I've barely had a moment. I'm anxious to do nothing. But I had to blow some kisses to my blog friends before I settle in for a long winters nap. *smiles*

I read something the other day over at Bohemian Season that has been ringing in my ears ever since. She said "Become Your Alter Ego". I pondered it all night, remembering a good friend who died recently. It seemed like he was always waiting for the life he really wanted. Waiting - for enough clients, for the happy part of marriage, for the kids to be grown, for retirement. All that waiting and then he died. "Chasing after the wind" is what the Bible calls it. I wondered how he might have been different had he simply lived the life that he was waiting for.
Did you know that we all have a God-shaped void in our lives? It's true. He created us with a longing that can only be filled by Him. All that waiting... Chasing the wind... work, marriages, children, homes, hobbies, friends - It's all just stuff that we try to put in the void. Not wrong things - just not THE thing. The feeling of wanting to be someone else... To unlock our true selves... Longing to do something different... Isn't that our "alter ego"? Isn't that the empty place calling out to be filled?
Let's challenge ourselves to become the alternative us that God desires. Let's not wait.

I really tried to post about something substantial, really. But I got all caught up in these old ads.

Do you think that in 1921 the ladies were as enamored with their pretty bottles and quaint products as we are?

Probably not.

Is it wierd that I find myself thinking about Silver Sunday all through the week?
It's true. All week I've been spying bits of silver around every corner.

I didn't realize how much I enjoy silver.
I also didn't realize that one leg on this teapot is more silver than the others.

Not truly silver but do you see what I mean? Little silvery metals everywhere!

See more of my silver over at French Cupboard.

Miss Gypsy Fish is hosting Silver Sunday for the next few weeks and let me tell you, I jumped right on that vintage silver wagon! Mom and I have an unspoken contest going over these huge old silver serving spoons. Everytime one of us finds a piece, we give it to the other as a gift. She gave me this one for Christmas and I just love it. Here's a few other random silver bits...

Right now my tarnished silver punch bowl is filled with hand shredded tatter.

I loved this little teapot (sorry, it sold before Christmas)

I'm loving the mason jar candle - Zinc counts as silver, right?

The French Cupboard is playing along too if you'd like to skip over there and see those pics

A big thank you to Gypsy Fish for hosting Silver Sunday! Click the photo to return to the main list.

Sunday Note: Because the Bible says that honoring the Sabbath is sign of the covenant between God and us - forever, I take Sundays as a day of rest. To honor Him, my Sunday posts are prepared the day before and any questions or orders that come through on Sundays will be responded to on Monday. Thank you so much for visiting.
