Rockin' The Boat

I read this over at Love Worth Finding and it hit me smack in the forehead!
It is not wrong to have possessions. As a matter of fact, God wants you to have possessions. He gives you possessions to make you a steward over them. The problem comes as those possessions multiply on credit. Somebody has described a modern American as a person who drives a bank-financed car, over a bond-financed highway, on gasoline he’s just bought with a credit card, on his way to open a charge account at a department store, so he can fill his savings and loan-financed home with installment-purchased furniture. Proverbs 15:6 says, “In the house of the righteous is much treasure, but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble." Now friend, it’s about time we stopped buying things we don’t need with money we don’t have to impress people we don’t like. It’s about time we learn what God had to say about how to make money, spend money, save money, and give money. God wants to open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing on you; yes, a spiritual blessing and a financial blessing!

I've never been one to care about impressing people. I just like stuff. I like all kinds of stuff. And when it's at Goodwill, Salvation Army, garage sales, resale shops, it's so hard to say no. It's cheap afterall, practically free! Doesn't that make it ok? I've got to buy stuff in order to make stuff, right?! This is a business. I have to buy supplies, furniture to re-do, antiques to sell. Right?! ...Right????
How to get the financial blessings

  2. I hope you're right since I'm right there with you! I will say that the older I get the more I realize that it's our relationships and not our posessions that define us. But I always remind myself how much more I would be spending if I was shopping at the mall instead of the thrift shops!! Am I justifying myself too? Well, it's certainly a cheap thrill!!

  5. Very very true....we do not own anything we cannot afford and of course we "get" things after the Lord gets his share...my idea of indulging is spending a few hours at Goodwill!!
I think it's the thrill of the hunt!
    Blessings,

  7. You are so right Polly! My brother is an antiques dealer and has been to many auctions where the "stuff" that someone took a lifetime to collect goes to the highest bidder. It isn't stuff that is important and we need to quit mortgaging tomorrow for todays loot. On the other hand, if that is your business, you need to buy stuff to sell stuff.

  8. well you need to buy stuff to sell, that's called making a living, so it's good. I guess we should not all be spend thrifts and buy things we don't necessarily need. I'm quite cautious these days, learning to pull the brakes! :)

  11. You have the right idea!! It is a business. And when you keep stuff it is an investment in your future, because you bought it cheap enough so later on if you sell it you make money:-) It works!
