A couple weeks ago I found this super cool, rusty, old lawn chair at our local salvage shop. It's heavy like you would not believe but for $5 I just couldn't leave it sitting there among all the old desks and partitions. It needed to be in its own environment.
I love how it can lounge or be a chair!
And I love the weathered arms!
But as much as I love the springs and the rust, it needs some cushions in order to be useful. I'm a little indecisive about whether I should make them or buy them. I'm picky about this stuff, don't ya know. I want something that can handle the Summer rain and kids jumping over it. So I guess until I find the right cushions, it'll have to sit as is. But hey, at least it's not naked in front of its peers amymore. *smiles* Any ideas for weather-proof cushions?

I am in the same boat as you... I bought exactly like yours from Sherry at Glamarella Junk... I am thinking 4 inch foam and then a washable zipper cover, that will have to be removed in the winter.

...oh! I just happened to be looking for the same thing! ~ and in my hunt today, at Home Depot ~ I saw some that looked like they may have been burlap...you know, nice and neutral like, but for outdoors, and I could totally put a ruffle on the seems of these, ...did I mention they were for outdoor?! (I always buy super fabo pretty pillows for my outdoor chairs because I want them to be lovely and functional ~ you'f think that is this asking to much!!!) But after a season they are ruined. Sooo I am bound and determined to find some and keep them for at least 2 seasons!!!! So now you've inspired me to give those a go...using a retired linen tablecloth for ruffles!!!!

ReplyDeleteYes, oil cloth would be great for outdoor cushions. they are not super dooper comfy but are weather proof!

Beautiful...I can see it lounging in a wildflower garden!
ReplyDelete"Sunbrella" fabric. Just type sunbrella fabric and there are website for outdoor fabric by the yard. The last time I checked they had some cool browns. It will last forever not sure of the price. But I have it outside and is hasn't faded in 19 years. Another idea and that's what I do for the boys every year when we go to the snow. I buy cheap snow pants and spray them with scotch guard.Maybe?Ciao Rita mammabellarte
ReplyDeleteKeep us posted on what you do with it. carla
ReplyDeleteLove the funky chair! I love things with a lot of age and patina. It'll look great with a pretty cushioned seat.
